Countess Dracula

Don’t you want to see me young and happy again?
02 April 2024

An ageing countess (Ingrid Pitt) discovers she can temporarily regain her youth by bathing in the blood of young women. She hatches a plan to pose as her own daughter and marry a younger man.

A slightly dull Hammer horror that is more medieval royal court period piece than gory exploitation, and definitely not a Dracula film.

It does have a pleasingly saucy streak which is quite amusing. There is a pretty strong commitment to capturing the look and feel of medieval Hungary which is perhaps thanks to the Hungarian director, but it does come as a surprise in an otherwise pretty campy film.

Worth the price of admission for a striking and shameless blood bath scene. Ingrid Pitt? More like Ingrid Fitt.
