Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

Hearts and minds: the two best places to shoot somebody.
28 January 2017

A New York TV producer (Tina Fey) is sent to Afghanistan when the ‘main’ war reporters at her TV network are sent to Iraq.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is a film caught in an identity crisis. It’s smart, funny, dramatic, has an all star-cast and yet gets caught in that no-man’s land so many ambitious mid-budget projects struggle with. It’s part character comedy, part romance, part commentary on journalism and yet fails to really capitalize on any of these elements.

Instead we get a painfully predictable story that just goes through the paces without even trying to deviate from the Hollywood template.

It’s not hard to see what the original idea was, but sadly the finished product is bland and forgettable.
