Film: Monsters University

"We're not gonna lose, because we have everything we need to win right here."

A sequel to the Pixar hit, here we follow the monster duo in their early days at university. Neither are good students, and after a few weeks at college they are offered an ultimatum - win a scaring contest or leave forever.

Spending the Christmas break with two youngsters gives me the perfect excuse to catch up on Pixar’s back catalogue.

I won’t go on too long, but in essence this is a hilarious and well-made animation lacking the deep and multi-layered screenplay Pixar is known for.

Monsters University doesn’t shoot as high as the original, and it doesn’t get close to Pixar’s best, but it’s a funny and warm film. There are worse ways to spend 90 minutes than with Mike and Sulley.
