Sorry 80s people - it’s just not that good.
Raimi suceeds in building a creepy atmosphere, only for it to be ruined by every cheap camera trick under the sun. Almost every choice made feels like it’s because he can, rather than because he should.
The script gives no room for the actors to breathe. They are as dull and two dimensional as the special effects. I’m ready to be shot at dawn for being such a ‘classic movie’ heretic, but before you pull the trigger you should know that I really tried to enjoy it. Honest.
A great one for 12 year-olds.
